About us

Music that connects. A city that listens. An orchestra that grows.
The Subotica Symphony Orchestra was founded in 2014 with a great ambition – to create an orchestra that would celebrate Subotica’s rich classical music tradition while opening new space for artistic ideas, young musicians and future audiences.
Growing from the multicultural and artistic spirit of Subotica, the SSO has become much more than a concert ensemble. It has become a place where artists, generations, musical sensibilities and audiences meet.
Under the artistic leadership of Miloš Nikolić, who also serves as concertmaster, the orchestra has collaborated with numerous distinguished soloists and conductors, including Stefan Milenković, Aleksandar Tasić, Robert Lakatoš, Dragan Đorđević Suzuki, Željko Lučić, Bela Mavrak, Radoslava Vorgić, Rita Kinka, Jasminka Stančul, Maja Milinković, Bojana and Nikola Peković, and many other acclaimed artists.
A special place in our story belongs to young musicians. The SSO strives to be a place where talent is given the opportunity to be heard – where young soloists can perform with a full symphony orchestra, gain valuable experience and take their first major steps onto the concert stage.
Since 2024, concerts by the Subotica Symphony Orchestra have been a regular part of the programme of the National Theatre in Subotica, further strengthening the orchestra’s place in the cultural life of the city.
A new chapter. A new responsibility.
A major milestone came on 12 June 2025, when the City Assembly of Subotica adopted the decision to establish a new cultural institution – the Subotica Symphony Orchestra.
On 21 January 2026, the SSO officially became an independent cultural institution.
An artistic vision had found its institutional home – and with it came a new responsibility towards the city, its artists and its audiences.

Our orchestra. Our city. Our music.
Today, we look ahead.
We celebrate the great symphonic repertoire while opening our doors to different musical stories. Classical music meets film music, special projects, programmes for children and young people, contemporary creation and open-air concerts.
We believe that tradition is not something that should simply be preserved.
We want to keep traditional music alive.
We connect established artists with young talent.
We bring great repertoire closer to new audiences.
And we want to present Subotica as a city with its own orchestra – and its own sound.
Subotica Symphony Orchestra.
For our city. For our audience. For the future.
